Aircove and Aircove Go are ExpressVPN’s Wi-Fi 6 routers with a built-in VPN; they run on AircoveOS, ExpressVPN’s dedicated router firmware.

Aircove routers are retired and no longer available for purchase. ExpressVPN’s current home-router offering is Fortify, which combines more powerful router hardware by GL.iNet with the ExpressVPN Advanced plan.

This guide answers common questions about ExpressVPN’s Aircove and Aircove Go routers as they continue to receive firmware updates and support through 2027 and 2028, respectively.

Can I still purchase an Aircove or Aircove Go router?

No. Aircove routers are being retired from sale, and ExpressVPN will not produce any additional units.

Fortify (GL-MT6000) powered by GL.iNet is ExpressVPN’s latest home-router offering. The high-performance Wi-Fi 6 VPN router is co-branded from ExpressVPN and GL.iNet and comes with 12 months of the ExpressVPN Advanced plan for new and returning users. It’s available via the GL.iNet website (from September 16, 2026), with Amazon availability expected after launch.

Can I keep using my Aircove router with ExpressVPN?

Yes. If you already own an Aircove router, you can keep using it with ExpressVPN. Aircove will continue to receive critical security updates and customer support through the published timelines.

Existing Aircove and Aircove Go owners will also be eligible for a 20% discount on Fortify (GL-MT6000), the latest router offering from ExpressVPN and GL.iNet. Terms and conditions apply. To avail of this offer, contact ExpressVPN Customer Support who will confirm your Aircove ownership and provide a discount code.

Will Aircove routers continue to receive security updates?

Aircove routers will continue to receive software security updates based on the timelines below:

Router ModelSoftware security updates until end of
ExpressVPN Aircove Go AXG18002028
ExpressVPN Aircove AX18002027

Please note that these timelines refer to firmware updates only. ExpressVPN cannot guarantee the hardware itself against breakage, manufacturer defect, or degraded performance due to wear and tear.

The latest firmware will remain available for download on the ExpressVPN website until the end of each model’s support period. If you have enabled auto-update on your router, it will also continue to update automatically until at least the end of its support period. For more information, read our guide on how to update ExpressVPN on your router.

Will Aircove and Aircove Go routers continue to work after 2027 and 2028 respectively?

Yes, you can continue to use Aircove routers after 2027/2028, provided you have an active ExpressVPN subscription. However, the firmware will no longer receive updates.

What if I have issues with my Aircove router after 2027/2028?

You can continue to rely on the ExpressVPN Support team for help with your Aircove router after 2027/2028. We’ll continue to assist with questions and concerns to the best of our ability, so you won’t be left without support.

Can I upgrade to the latest ExpressVPN router?

Yes. Existing Aircove users will be eligible for a 20% discount on Fortify (GL-MT6000), the latest home router offering from ExpressVPN and GL.iNet. To claim the offer, contact ExpressVPN Customer Support, who will confirm your Aircove ownership and provide a discount code. Terms and conditions apply.

What’s the difference between Aircove and the new Fortify router?

Aircove combines ExpressVPN’s own router software (AircoveOS) with hardware designed and produced for ExpressVPN. Fortify brings ExpressVPN to GL.iNet’s existing Flint 2 router technology, which runs on GL.iNet’s firmware.

Fortify offers a significant hardware upgrade, including more processing power, memory, and network capacity than the previous Aircove generation. At a glance:

*VPN speeds can reach up to 900 Mbps on WireGuard®. VPN speed figures are based on the router’s hardware VPN capability in client mode under controlled local network conditions. Actual speeds over an ExpressVPN connection may vary depending on the VPN server, ISP, client device, and network conditions.

Can I migrate my setup from Aircove to Fortify?

If your ExpressVPN subscription is active, you can continue using the same subscription with a Fortify router.

However, because Aircove runs on AircoveOS while Fortify runs on GL.iNet’s firmware, your existing settings and configurations cannot be transferred directly. Fortify will need to be set up separately.

The essential VPN functions you use on Aircove are still available on Fortify, although some features may work differently or have a different name. For example, you can:

  • Connect to any of ExpressVPN’s server locations.
  • Add, remove, and set priorities for multiple VPN tunnels.
  • Choose which devices or connection types use a specific VPN tunnel.
  • Enable the kill switch with advanced configurations per tunnel.
  • Use router-level content filtering, ad and tracker blocking, and parental controls.

Learn more in our guide to configuring Fortify.

Is Aircove still secure?

Yes. AircoveOS continues to receive critical security updates based on our published timelines, and if you have auto-update enabled, it will update automatically any time a patch is available.

Aircove’s security has also been independently audited by cybersecurity experts at Cure53. Aircove continues to use ExpressVPN’s Lightway VPN protocol, with ongoing security enhancements including support for ML-KEM, a post-quantum cryptographic standard.

Can I trade in my Aircove router?

Aircove routers are not eligible to be traded in for upgrades. However, existing Aircove users are eligible for a 20% discount on the new Fortify router from GL.iNet with ExpressVPN. Terms and conditions apply. To claim this discount, contact ExpressVPN Customer Support.

Can I get a refund on my Aircove router?

Aircove routers remain subject to the refund policy provided by the point of sale. Routers purchased directly from ExpressVPN are subject to the ExpressVPN Aircove refund policy, while routers purchased from Amazon or FlashRouters are subject to the terms outlined at time of purchase by Amazon or FlashRouters, respectively.

Is my Aircove warranty affected by the product being discontinued?

No. The warranty is not affected, and all terms apply as stated in the full Aircove warranty documentation.
